With the outrage surrounding Tucker Carlson’s views on immigration and its consequences on America you’ll be surprised to learn that once again leftists are hypocritical. Buzzfeed published an article highlighting Lily Hi’Ilani Okimura. She is basically the Tucker Carlson of the Hawaiian people.

Okimura told Buzzfeed that tourism, far from being a benefit to her state, is actually harmful. “A lot of tourists treat our land like it’s some theme park, they will ignore warning signs, which can cause damage to our environment like erosion, vandalism and pollution.”

This closely mirrors Carlson’s rhetoric, like when he famously said that “Immigrants make this country poorer and dirtier.” Interestingly while Okimura is portrayed as an advocate for her people, Carlson was called a racist and his show lost advertisers.

When she calls Hawaii “our land” it brings to mind when Carlson claimed that immigration harmed “ancestors that have lived here.” He was slammed as a white supremacist. The deputy director of the Council on American Islamic Relations said in a statement “And for the record this country doesn’t belong to any ethnic group, nor does greater diversity harm any racial group.”

Some might argue that the Hawaiian people have lived there for thousands of years. Therefore the comparison to what Carlson said is unfair because America is a land of immigrants. That is a fair point, however would you feel the same about a European declaring their country “our land” in relation to keeping others out. Of course that would be declared racist. Yet because Okimura is of Asian descent she gets a pass?

She goes full anti-immigrant so to speak as to what should happen to these rule breakers. “If you can’t be bothered to respect the place that you’re going to visit, then you can go back home. Imagine being this upset about people that are only there to visit. Imagine if they wanted to stay forever?

This is why Republicans have such strong views on illegal immigration that are considered so racist according to the left. All these people take up resources and space and cause environmental impacts. But Republicans just have to deal with the over 11 million lawbreakers already here and don’t you think about trying to stop more from breaking the law.

She next delves into the Magical Native Trope as to why people should not come to Hawaii and why they should not adapt and perhaps move away for more opportunities. “This trope is based on the misguided belief that indigenous peoples are incredibly spiritual, live in harmony with nature and have powers that come from the combination of spirituality and a connection to nature.” She tells Buzzfeed that “Native Hawaiians have a deep connection to the aina, the land, we consider ourselves stewards of the land, and it is our kuleana, our responsibility, to take care of it, because in return, it takes care of us. It is because we have this connection to our aina that we don’t want to just abandon it and move somewhere else.”

She is basically saying that Hawaiians should have control of who is allowed to visit Hawaii because God gave them the land. Christians believed that they had a God given right to take control of land and to subdue it. I’m sure she scoffs at this religious basis for keeping land and we should take her people’s beliefs with the same derision and ignore them.

As we can see it is entirely normal for people to want to preserve the culture they were raised in and have been part of. However it seems that there are only some that are allowed to advocate for the preservation of that culture without being depicted as an evil racist.
